im pretty sure that the whole point of democracy is that the government should respond to the wishes of the people. it shouldnt even see itself as an entity to be challenged but as simply an extension of the people’s will ~BAAS
“I was wondering if you’d be my friend. you look like a nice enough person…”
um, thanks…
rewind:
Me: (approaches bus stop wondering if I’ve missed the bus)
Random Man: (waiting for bus)
Me: “you been waiting long?”
Random Man: “yeah”
Me: (relieved that I didn’t miss the bus)
Man: “I’m new in the neighbourhood”
Me: (staring down the street for any sign of a bus) “oh, that’s nice”
Man: “I used to live at Jane & Weston”
Me: “oh, yeah”
(awkward silence)
Me: “so you live around here”
Man: “yup”
Me: (still staring down the street to avoid eye contact) “it’s a nice neighbourhood except when the bus is late”
Man: “I’ve had a rough life”
Me: “oh”
Man: “but that’s what happens when you’re poor” (looks me up and down)
Me: (dressed up in my work clothes looking very Bay Street) “oh”
Man: “been paying off a debt my whole life that wasn’t mine”
Me: “oh, I think I hear the bus”
Man: “yeah, it’s been rough”
Me: (false alarm on the bus)
Man: “I was wondering if you want to be my friend. You look like a nice enough person”
(awkward silence)
Me: “Oh, I see the bus”
Man: gets on bus and sits at the front
Me: gets on bus and sits at the back
Man: stares at me the entire trip…creepy
oh, the joys of city life!
snow sucks January 15, 2007
we were so close… halfway into January without having to drive in snow… and then… today happened. bah. stupid.
could be worse, though – the temperature of the Earth could be rising at an alarming pace and everything could be melting – oh wait, it is. well, at least Canada is intact – oh wait, nope. Antarctica? still nope.
ok – it still could be worse.
sarahcasm’s simplified dictionary January 3, 2007
maybe it’s ’cause i grew up in the the thick of franglais and truncated french phrases that manage to turn 5 syllables into 1, or maybe i’m just lazy but… tell me this: why does the english language have a special affinity for prefixes…? un-, de-, in-… all fine and well when ONE is used, but is there really the need to combine them? wouldn’t it just be simpler if they cancelled each other out?!
solution:
uninhibited = hibited (cuts out 2 syllables)
take down decorations, or de-decorate = corate (cuts out 4 syllables).
makes sense to me…
Last Book I read… January 2, 2007
The Pursuit of Happyness.
I’m not about to review it in great detail, but I will say that it must be a good book ’cause I actually bothered to finish it! most books I start these days, don’t get read all the way through – call it laziness, call it lack of time, lack of interest, addiction to TV, whatever.
regardless, I finished The Pursuit of Happyness, and I actually came away with a better understanding of a lot of things! He managed to cover a lot in relatively few pages!
The story is quite fascinating! It’s amazing to me that someone can go through so much crap, actually hit rock bottom, and come out on top – almost the very top! inspiring.
if you liked the movie, read the book. the movie is very much an adaptation and really only covers a very short period of his life, which actually pales in comparison to the traumatic events that preceeded it.
thumbs up!
